T.S.SRINIVASAN was very excited as he began his new life with his wife and children. He had a very respected position as an accountant for a large business. Everything changed the year of his 40th birthday. Srinivasan discovered he had Leprosy. At the time, there was no cure available for the disease. He had to leave his job and his family in order to protect their social status in India’s class system. He was totally alone for the first time and very depressed and frightened about what would happen in his life.
When first given the opportunity to be an artist, he was hesitant. He had no experience in art, but, he needed a job. He only used black and white when he began painting, but now he uses the five basic colors to mix and create any color he desires. His favorite colors are black and red – black to shade with and red because it is such an attractive color to him. His very first paintings were mostly birds. Now, he enjoys painting mountains and is inspired by nature and how the earth grows.
Srinivasan has been attending Bindu Art School since 2005. He hopes that soon he will serve the school as part of the administration staff. He would love to use his accounting skills once again. In his free time, he likes to read anything he can get his hands on. His advice for others, is to take care of those with Leprosy. Lives can be turned around for the better in amazing ways. People with Leprosy are still people and must work, have families and enjoy their lives just like everybody else. Srinivasan wishes to be reunited with his family someday and learn and love with them for the rest of his life.
