E. RAMAMURTHY was once a respected teacher in his community. When he first discovered that he was Leprosy - affected, he became very depressed. He was forced to leave his job and his family. He was very surprised by the coldness directed toward him by people he once loved and shared friendships with. He could not believe their inability to see him as a real person, especially in his time of need.
He has always loved art and his happiness soon returned when he realized the possibility of becoming an artist. Since he has attended the Bindu Art School, his paintings have greatly improved! He was honored as a chosen artist to travel to Austria and show his art at the very prestigious Vienna Art Exhibit in September 2006!
In the beginning, his inspiration came from animals because of their color and shape. Now, he has come to find inspiration in the beautiful landscape of India that surround him. Since he has been painting, he has felt a freedom from his depression and no longer feels rejected by the outside world. Now, he has been able to reconnect with his life before the Leprosy and do what he loves best – teach others about art. He hopes to visit more countries and places of the world. He would like buyers to know that he has overcome many obstacles with this disease and realizes the value of the rich lessons learned from those obstacles. He is very proud of his work, and at the age of 71, looks forward to reaching his full potential.
