K. MUNUSAMY was fifteen when he realized that his skin became quite rough and thick, and also the movement of his fingers became more and more difficult. He went to hospital and found out that he was affected with Leprosy and immediatly started with the treatment which took about four years. For him nothing really changed, he was able to continue his job which was fixing railway tracks and after working in the fields. He also could stay with his family who lived about hundred km from the Colony where he used to go for his treatment at the Leprosy hospital in Bharatapuram. When he was thirtytwo he even got married which made him very happy, however, after his wife Lakshmi had lost their first child, she left him again.
When his parents died, he moved to the colony. He was then 40 years old and still had to go to the hospital for his regular check-ups. So for him it was just easier to live there. Munusamy cannot think of any nice memory of his past life. Now, he is very happy because being part of the Bindu-Art School he not only could start a regular life which gives him hold and support but he has also found his new family. He started having contact again with his niece and nephew who even come now and visit him sometimes.
Munusamy loves and enjoys painting so much. It gives him relaxation, mental refreshment as well as an importance in life and takes all his worries. This happiness he wants to show in his paintings and he hopes that the people who buy them can feel and enjoy it.
